Roelof Uys
1989-1991: Two years fine arts at East London Technical College, East London, South Africa.
Distinction achieved in Ceramics.
1994: Started a career as a full-time potter, experimenting with different techniques.
Started own unique line of domestic ware, working mostly with stoneware, porcelain and earthenware.
Employed as a porcelain thrower, from which techniques were learnt.
1994 – 1995: Employed as the resident potter by a popular craft shop in Knysna, a top tourist destination in South Africa. His own line of high-fired decorative domestic ware proved extremely popular. This position demanded close and frequent interaction with customers. Public demonstrations of throwing and other skills were required.
1995 – 1998: Set up own studio in Cape Town.
Continued with own line, expanding and improving the range.
Sold work on markets where shops and galleries very quickly became clients. As the demand for the range grew, two assistants were employed.
Served on the Board of the Western Cape Association of Potters, South Africa.
1998 – 1999: Left South Africa to gain more experience in England.
Employed by Four Seasons Pottery.
Worked as a freelance thrower from May to December, 1998, specialising in garden pots.
A new line resembling that used in South Africa was launched.
1999: Moved to St Ives, Cornwall, to start up his own studio in St Ives producing a wider range of high quality, decorative pottery.

2000: Solo Exhibition at ‘Printmakers Gallery’, Tregenna Hill, St Ives
for the duration of the ‘St Ives September Festival.’
