ARTIST’S STATEMENT
Having developed a passionate interest in Raku, I have spent the past eight years developing my own palette of glazes. Particular emphasis on the vibrant spectrum of colours produced by copper oxide, and achieving unusual ‘crazing’ effects, has been a main aim of my work. Although my work is primarily decorative, each object has been designed with a specific use in mind, which bears an important relation to the overall appearance and form. My work is sometimes made of thrown and assembled components, which are inspired by nature, shadows, silhouettes, Art Nouveau and Islamic design. I have a great love for puzzle boxes and unusual antique curiosities, which also influence the ornate pieces I create. The individual pieces I make are complemented by a design range, which includes bowls and dishes, candleholders and a variety of classical vase forms. I also work on large individual commissions and have customers worldwide, including Iran and the West Indies. The pieces are low-fired and for decorative purposes only as they are not watertight!
