The Gallery, owned by potter John Bedding, former apprentice and then assistant to Bernard Leach for a period of almost 10 years, is considered one of the principal galleries in the South West - and beyond. It brings together high quality ceramics, both for domestic use as well as work for the collector. The gallery enables visitors to view works by local potters as well as leading potters of international status, past and present. .
St Ives Ceramics runs several exhibitions per year, highlighting the work of a particular potter or a group, and is open daily from 10 am till 5 pm, including Sundays and Bank Holidays. Exceptions: We are closed Christmas and Boxing Day aswell as New Years Day.
On display is a collection of 20th century master potters, comprising the likes of Bernard Leach et al, Lucie Rie, Hans Coper, William Marshall, Richard Batterham and many more. A whole section of the Gallery, which has 5 distinct display spaces, is dedicated to pottery produced in Mashiko, Japan, including works by all three Hamadas - Shoji, his son Shinsaku and his grandson Tomoo - plus Tatsuzo Shimaoka, the 'Living National Treasure of Japan'. These pots make up the C.B.S. Collection. They can be viewed on line by clicking the C.B.S. button above.
